Caution
Since it is very comfortable, it is tempting to apply too much tension.
Although higher tensions may be comfortable for a while, especially if one is
walking or frequently moving one’s leg, after one or more hours, it may become
uncomfortable if tension is too high. The solution is to reduce the tension by
relaxing the pull of the elastic band, or, temporarily, by pushing on the end of
the wire strut. At night, it is necessary to use lower tension than during the
day.
General Information
Avoid creams and oils on the penis, as these may cause the device to slip
off.
Washing the device with soap and water removes any accumulated oils and
improves the gripping efficiency. It is also helpful to wash or rinse the skin
daily.
In view of surgical skin expansion techniques, where skin can be expanded
several inches in a few weeks, it is probably beneficial to apply higher tension
(up to 5 pounds) for relatively brief periods (up to 10 minutes), followed by
longer periods of lower "retaining" tension.
There should be no pain. If the device hurts, it is almost always because
there is too much tension being applied, as higher tension causes tighter
gripping and hence pain or discomfort.
Another possible source of pain occurs in men who have so much foreskin that
some of it protrudes through the opening in the outer shell. In this case, the
foreskin can become pinched between the wire strut and the outer shell,
producing a sharper pain (in contrast with the dull pain resulting from
too much tension). This problem can be solved by bending the wire strut next to
the inner shell away from the point of pain (which always occurs on the
side against the leg), then bending the strut in the opposite direction nearer
its tip, to form a sort of S-shaped bend.
This problem can also be solved by simply gripping the foreskin more
distally. More distal gripping can easily be achieved by using either of two
methods. The first method involves simply allowing the skin to slip part way out
by pulling outward on the outer shell with one hand while simultaneously pulling
on the inner shell with the other hand. The other method is to begin by
advancing some foreskin onto the glans, then placing the outer shell upon this
skin, and then rolling the remaining skin up over the inner shell before
applying the outer shell.
There is a tiny hole drilled through the inner shell to relieve a vacuum
which could otherwise develop inside this shell.
Too much repeated bending of the strut should be avoided. The strut is made
of heavy copper wire. With too much bending, it could eventually break.
The alligator clip can be attached to the inside of a pocket, for example, so
that if the device should come off, it won’t fall out through the pants leg.
Personally, I don’t bother with this, but it’s there if you want it.
If one’s pants are too tight, the device may come off with repeated
sitting, standing, and frequent movement of legs. Possible solutions involve
wearing looser pants or applying greater tension.
The wire strut can be manipulated through one’s clothing. By pushing on the
end of the strut, one can temporarily relieve discomfort resulting from too much
tension. By pulling on the strut, one can increase gripping pressure in case the
device feels like it is slipping. Pulling on the strut intermittently also
probably speeds skin expansion. Although this is somewhat awkward, one can even
remove his Tug Ahoy® through the clothing. This is done by gripping the outer
shell in one hand and firmly pushing it distally, while simultaneously pushing
and then pulling on the wire strut. This frees one’s equipment for any desired
spontaneous activity.
